Cochlear and the BBC: One step ahead
Calling all wannabe
actresses!
At Cochlear we've always believed that you can
be whatever you want to be - the sky's the limit! This way of
thinking is the driving force behind our Cochlear implant devices
and were delighted that the BBC; world leaders in media
are sitting up and taking notice.
The BBC are looking to cast a Cochlear Implant
user in a new hard hitting drama. Forget the one hit wonders of
reality shows like the X-Factor, the Beeb are giving you, Cochlear
Implant users, the opportunity to work under the direction of Emmy
award winning director Dearbhla Walsh in new drama -The Silence… oh
and did we mention, it's the lead female
role?
Don't panic though, they're not expecting you
to have previous acting experience just a willingness to learn and
the kind of personality to keep up with a professional film crew.
You'll have to act soon though (forgive the pun) because filming
starts next month!
The BBC's decision to cast a hearing impaired
actress and not someone pretending to have a hearing deficiency is
a significant development according to Cochlear's Gaynor Booth:
"Were delighted that young aspiring actresses have been given this
opportunity. They're setting the way for other TV programmes
to follow suit. "In the drama the young girl is learning to
talk while wearing a Cochlear Implant. It will open peoples eyes to
the trials and tribulations of what most of our implantees go
through."
Working with the same production company that
brought us Skins and Shameless,
Company Pictures will begin filming in Dublin, Ireland from
the beginning of November until January 2010 with a break for
Christmas.
"At Cochlear we pride ourselves on being one
step ahead in order to achieve the best hearing outcomes for our
users and were delighted that the BBC too are keeping one step
ahead too - it will be a wonderful opportunity for whoever gets
cast for the part" says Gaynor.
In a veraciously competitive industry that is
television we at Cochlear hope that the BBC has set an example and
led the way for the creation of more for the hearing impaired
community.
With the revolutionary technology of our
products we believe that our users can reach new heights and
achieve the dreams usually associated with those with normal
hearing.
They're currently on the lookout for their
leading lady so if your between 16-19 with bags of enthusiasm and a
desire to act then get in touch now.
